The
Difference
City
Care’s transitional housing program provides
an environment that encourages individuals to
achieve long-term success – with commitments
to the community, jobs, & themselves. This
HUD and City of Oklahoma City sponsored Supportive
Housing Program is designed for people who have
shown a desire to change their lives and offers
them assistance to get there. Local shelters
serve the needs of the general homeless population.
We instead, serve those with a desire to learn
to live independently.Resiidents,
who pay rent based on their income, may stay
in the program for the time needed to adapt
to the freedom and responsibility of independent
living, up to 24 months.
Intake
& Assessment Process
Supportive service needs are determined through
a specifically detailed intake form, completed
before entry into the program.
City Care fully utilizes the strengths of our
cooperating referral agencies in determining intake
assessments, case planning and evaluation.
Potential clients are asked specific questions
regarding educational level, job skills, sobriety,
etc. Criteria include 90 days of sobriety or recent
completion of a substance abuse recovery program,
& employability.
Goal
Setting
In collaboration with case managers, residents
set goals regarding job training, education, income,
and personal growth. Each individual’s progress
is tracked through weekly target sessions with
peer support groups and/or the case manager.
Holistic
Approach
The program takes a holistic approach to helping
each person achieve his full potential and sustaining
the individual’s commitment toward self-sufficiency.
A
Community Spirit
Our “back-to-work” program encourages
residents to learn to interact as neighbors, accepting
responsibility for and taking pride in their living
environment. Our goal is to provide a continuous
and supportive sense of community.
Fostering
Responsibility
Residents
are involved in weekly community
meetings, discussing and organizing participation
in day-to-day operations, and taking responsibility
for cleanliness and order.
We
seek to empower people through teamwork, opportunities
for advancement, accepting responsibility, and
a communal environment.
The
Pershing Center Facility
City Care has received more than $4,000,000
for the construction of Pershing Center, a permanent
home for our housing program. These funds have
come from Low Income Housing Tax Credits (LIHTC)
through Oklahoma Housing Finance Agency (OHFA),
HOME funds through The City of Oklahoma City
and Affordable Housing Program funds through
The Federal Home Loan Bank of Topeka and Bank
One, Oklahoma. The Pershing Center is currently
under construction at 2400 General Pershing
Boulevard (east of Villa between Reno and NW
10th). Scheduled to open July 1, 2003, the facility
includes a central community area with classrooms,
kitchen, dining hall, and offices; and 60 residential
units consisting of 48 studio units and 12 one-bedroom
units, all accessible only through the main
entrance.
Once the Pershing Center facility is completed,
residents will be required to participate in
the neighborhood watch program and in neighborhood
beautification projects. City care will insure
that this project is an asset to the neighborhood
rather than a detriment. We will seek to actively
integrate residents with the needs of the surrounding
community. Such involvement teaches residents
the importance of strong community connection
and good neighborliness.
