The
"Who-So-Ever Will, May Come"
Breakfast started as an outreach
at Citychurch in 1992. In 1996 when
City Care took over this task, the
breakfast was serving 2,800 meals
per month, an average of 128 people
each morning. In 1997, when a major
inner-city shelter was closed our
outreach numbers increased dramatically
and the need has remained constant.

Food
& Breakfast Outreach
With
the help of more than 70 volunteers, City
Care serves more than 4,000 meals each month.
We average 125 guests per day for our hot
meal and have approximately 150 food basket
recipients weekly. City Care serves 46,800
meals through food baskets plus 48,000 breakfast
meals and sack lunches for a total of 94,800
meals annually.
City Care partners
with the Regional Food Bank of Oklahoma
which serves as a source for low-cost food
for our needy clients. We also partner with
area churches for our annual Souper Bowl
(each NFL Super Bowl Sunday) to raise funds
for the breakfast.
Who
We Serve
City
Care's breakfast program primarily serves homeless
individuals who are not employed and the working
poor. Our food basket recipients reach a larger
group including homeless, clients on fixed incomes,
those living in public housing, disabled individuals,
single women with children and families. Of those
we serve, 40% of City Care’s clients are
African-Americans, 15% Native Americans, 2% Hispanic,
and 42% are Caucasian clients. About 95% of our
clients are males and approximately 5% are female.
The average age of those served is 30-50. Of those
attending the breakfast, about 25% are employed.
When possible, we provide a sack lunch for these
guests to take to work.

Volunteer...
The increased volume of food served in our breakfast
outreach also created a need for more people power.
This is met through increased numbers of volunteers
and we continue to be staffed primarily by volunteers.

Show
Encouragement...
Our volunteers work with guests to encourage sobriety
and help boost self-esteem and goal setting. We
believe our special mission is to show encouragement
to people who have been thrown away by society
and by themselves. We see the dire needs of the
people in the inner city, and we constantly seek
ways to creatively meet those needs.
Your
Support . . .
Oklahoma City's human service needs are improving
but still inadequate. Private donations are needed
to allow us to meet the need for food and supplies
to feed the homeless and impoverished.
